Actor Shivaji had began his fast unto death deeksha demanding Special Status for Andhra Pradesh. The actor who recently became active in politics sat for the deeksha in Guntur Collector Office. Mala Mahanadu, Tribal Students Association and many groups have lent their support to Shivaji.

Shivaji's deeksha attracted many locals and youth in the surrounding areas. They have thronged to the venue in good numbers. Shivaji extensively campaigned for BJP in the last elections across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. However he voiced opinion against the party after it kept on rejecting the promised Special Status.

He toured many areas of the state and arranged round table conferences regarding this issue. This behavior of Shivaji even irked the BJP state unit and went on disown him telling he is not a member of the party. UPA government promised Special Status for 5 years during the state bifurcation. BJP then demanded Special Status for 10 years and even promised in their manifesto. But now they are ignoring the promise for political gains.
