TDP, founded by late actor NTR was more or less called Andhra party for all practical purposes. In AP, it is considered as the natural party of Chowdharys and Naidus who are a powerful lot, especially in Coastal Andhra region. But with times, one has to change.
TRS succeeded to an extent in labeling TDP as Andhra Party
TDP some how failed to capitalize on its pro-Telangana stand because the party was some where believed to be insincere when it comes to espousing a genuine stand in favor of Telangana. After T-agitation picked up, TRS succeeded to an extent in labeling TDP as Andhra Party.
Mahanadu held after formal bifurcation of AP
But the first Mahanadu held after formal bifurcation of AP has seen how TDP chief Naidu has given equal prominence to leaders of both state although the party was still in opposition in Telangana.However, the party has now decided to move beyond this barrier.
The party has announced its ambitions to become a national party and in this regard, Babu was elected as the chief of its central committee and now there would two separate presidents for AP and TS. Infact,Telangana formation was seen as TDP’s nemesis but now it is an opportunity wherein the party is trying to erase its Andhra tag by becoming a national party.
