There is a lot of good news in store for Andhra Pradesh, with the first such statistics after bifurcation. While the overall increase in domestic air passengers in entire India is just 16 percent, Vijayawada Airport has reportedly registered a stunning growth of 94.4 percent in June when compared to corresponding month in 2013.

According to a traffic report, around 31,245 passengers have reportedly commuted using Vijayawada Airport in only one month which is a new record, and this report was released by Airports Authority of India last week. The second highest number of passengers was also recorded in April with 30,492 passengers commuting at Vijayawada Airport.


With the announcement of AP’s new capital region in Guntur and Krishna districts, Vijayawada Airport, currently the only airport available for four districts, has witnessed an increasing number of people using flights to commute between this region and Hyderabad, as well as New Delhi and other cities.


At least 1,000 passengers are reportedly passing through this airport each day and the number is reaching higher figures during festival seasons. The number of passengers have see an increase since mid-2014 gradually and by June 2015 it has reportedly reached a record high. Even Vizag has seen growth of 92.1 percent in terms of International passengers!
