Telugu Desam Party made its mark in Andaman and Nicobar islands after becoming National Party. Panchayat and Municipal elections held in Andaman and Nicobar islands on September 20th. TDP was contested 18 wards out of 24 in Port Blair Municipal Elections and showed an impressive performance in the elections.

 

TDP has won two wards in Port Blair Municipal Elections and stood in second place in another four wards. TDP come in third position in another two wards. One Independent also elected with the support of TDP. It’s very interesting after analyzing the results. Both TDP winning candidates are women. That too they are from Non-Telugu states. Ms. S. Selvi (TDP) from Tamilnadu and Ms. Prathibha Banerjee (TDP) from West Bengal states.

 

Selvi won the ward with majority of 363 votes and Prathibha Banerjee with a majority of 931 votes. A large number of people from Northern Andhra districts were settled in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This victory definitely gave huge boost to the party to contest in elections in other southern states. It helps to TDP to secure national status in Indian politics.
