Leader of Opposition, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had toured villages notified for Bhogapuram airport and made serious allegations on TDP Ministers — Ayyannapathrudu and Ghanta Srinivasa Rao. Jagan said the minister have huge land parcels near the proposed airport but will not give lands to the cause. The allegations created a huge controversy across the state and the ministers had to explain.
Ayyannapathrudu told the media that it is true he has a resort near the proposed airport. But his lands were not exempted. The lands for the airport were fixed by the central technical team. Ayyanna clarified to the opposition leader and media that he is ready to offer his land in case the lands are needed for the airport. Ayyanna reminded media how his resort was adjudged the best by the then Congress government led by Jagan's father, YS Rajasekhar Reddy and all these allegations are purely political.
The existing airport in Vishakapatnam was mainly used by defense forces and the airport expansion therefore is becoming difficult. So the state government is planning this new airport in Bhogapuram which will help the development of Uttarandhra.
