Mumbai sources reported that sturdy multipurpose vehicles (MPV) or people movers which trailed the most muscular SUV's of late are making a robust comeback. Meanwhile about half a dozen new models are likely to hit local roads in the coming 12-24 months, helping expand the MPV market.



Accordingly Maruti Suzuki which sells one in two cars in India will soon be coming out with a new generation of its successful MPV Ertiga, and it will be followed by a bigger sibling in the following six months of the new-gen Ertiga launch. Moreover the maker of Swift will also be launching the MPV based on the Wagon R platform.

Further Mahindra & Mahindra, the maker of Scorpio and Bolero, will also be launching an all new MPV the U321 in the upcoming festive season to build its volumes and market share and look to seize back the number 1 position in the UV space. Moreover Toyota is likely to cement its leadership credentials in the space with interventions on the Innova.
