Kanniyakumari or Kanyakumari which was also known as Cape Comorin during the British era in India is the southernmost tip on the Indian mainland. Kanyakumari is situated at the confluence of the Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal.
The main attraction here includes a large statue built in the sea of the famous Indian poet Swami Vivekananda Rock, Thiruvalluvar statue which is 133 feet tall. On the rock one can also notice large footprints which are believed to be that of goddess Kumari who did a penance here on one foot in order to marry Lord Shiva.
The Kanyakumari temple in the main market area is the oldest monument in the town and is quite small as compared to the other temples in southern India.
