Mangalore is a land of rich traditions and folk art and is the major port city of Karnataka. Surrounded by the Western Ghats and the Arabian sea, Mangalore gets its name from Mangaladevi, the deity. The city is known for its rich heritage and travel destinations, which are as follows.

Sultan Battery, which has been built with black stones, is a prominent watchtower in the city , built by Tipu Sultan, and it also has cannons. The Kadri temple with Lord Lokeshwara, the St Aloysius church which houses some of the marvelous artworks and paintings by Italian painter Antony Moshanini are some important tourist attractions.


The other important places to visit include Shri Shravan Mahaganapathi temple which is an 800 year old  one, besides the Kudroli Gokarnath temple, Dharamshala with its Jain Manjunatha temple, Karkal with its impressive Bahubali statue, and the shopping n Mangalore is well known for cashew nuts and coffee, and there are lots economic hotels with delicious south Indian dishes.
