After her bold and beautiful act as the damsel in distress vying for revenge, in Baahubali, where she impressed as Devasena , the lady Superstar of Tollywood, Anushka Shetty is back on screen this republic day weekend, with the stunning social thriller Bhaagamathie, directed by G Ashok, known for his debut flick Pilla Zamindar. Chanchala IAS (Anushka Shetty) is imprisoned, following a conspiracy. However she's not locked in a prison but is held captive at the haunted Bhaagamathie bungalow, and suddenly she starts behaving weird and attacks people around her. Who's Bhaagamathie, what's her revenge mission, and whether Chanchala IAS came out of the crime web spun around her to come out clean is what the thrilling Bhaagamathie is all about?
Anushka gets to perform a role with variations and impresses in her two shaded act, and shows ample variety, with her ease of shuttling between the calm and composed, loveable Chanchala IAS, and the murderous, and powerful woman with a revenge mission, Bhaagamathie. With her mass performance, she proves her versatility, living up to the title of Lady Superstar. Unni Mukundan appears for a brief time, but makes an impact on his measured Performance. Jayaram looks menacing, as the evil antagonist and perfects the Villainy With his sharp and powerful expressions. Asha Sarath is adequate, while the rest of the cast is completely overshadowed by the towering screen presence of Anushka.
S Thaman gives a haunting background score, generating necessary thrills, and his Mandhara is a soothing melody that's hum-worthy. Mathie's Cinematography is impressive and captures the stunning Bhaagamathie bungalow in all its glory, and special credits to the VFX team and art director Ravinder for their hard work that shows in every frame. After impressing with his debut flick Pilla Zamindar, director G Ashok had lost touch with back to back failures, Sukumarudu and Chitrangada, following which he has waited for almost 5 years to make Bhaagamathie. Now, he has bounced back with a taut thriller.
Promoted right from the beginning as a social thriller, Bhaagamathie has simple plot, but is taken to a different level, thanks to the powerhouse performer Anushka Shetty, who solely shoulders Bhaagamathie, displaying extreme levels of variation between the two shades of the character, and roars on screen, even Surpassing her Arundhati and Rudramadevi acts with her performance in Bhaagamathie.
With some interesting sequences in the first half, leading to the stunning interval block, Ashok delivers a tight screenplay in the second half, filled with ample doses of thrills and twists, and able support of Mathie's top-notch Cinematography, and Thaman's scintillation BGM, Bhaagamathie clears the hurdles and becomes a winner. All said Bhaagamathie is a perfect comeback for Ashok and another testimony to Anushka's acting skills.

The second half of Bhaagamathie moves at a rapid pace, and is filled with numerous scary sequences that evoke fright, besides also being shouldered by the amazingly talented Anushka Shetty who carries Bhaagamathie and displays dual shades beautifully. The first half of Bhaagamathie moves at a swift pace, without much distractions or revelations on the main plot and shuttles between the present and flashback. While the whole back-story is yet to be opened , Anushka impresses with her dominant screen presence keeping audience engaged.
7:20am: A stunning unexpected entry of Bhaagamathie with the terrific and powerful dialogue shown in the trailer, and the movie reaches interval.
7:16am: As few horror scenes are presented on screen, simultaneously a robbery happens during the night at the Bhaagamathie bungalow.
7:09am: After the spine chilling horror sequences, Bhaagamathie once again ventures into the interrogation sequences.
