Watch It or Not?: Watch it only for Farhan Akhtar and his sincere effort in bringing India's flying Sikh alive on silver screen.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag Review: Story

Milkha Singh [Farhan Akhtar] loses his parents in the 1947 India-Pakistan partition. Survived by his only sister, Milkha struggles through a hard childhood and finally joins the Indian army. Once in the army, Milkha takes part in a running competition and wins the title. He is then selected for national level competition and from there he moves on to become one of the top athletes in India. Rest of the story is taken forward by what personal and professional obstacles he faces in his illustrious career and how does he come out of it. This is bio-pic of India's flying Sikh... none other than Milkha Singh. Interesting thing is: Milkha gave his biography rights to movie makers just for 1 INR, Yes you read it right it is just one rupee.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag Review: StarPerformances

Farhan Akhtar has put his heart into the movie and turns as soul for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. This film would have been nothing without his brilliant performance. He gave mature performance and shocks you with his chiseled (well-toned body) look. The way Farhan has approached the Milkha Singh role is magnanimous. He got into detail of the Milkha character so much and played it with ease on silver screen. Sonam Kapoor was wasted in a small role and so is Prakash Raj. As Milkha's coach Yograj Singh [father of Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh] does an exceptional job, he acted in Punjabi films till now and we may see him in more movies going forward.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag ReviewDirection, Music & Technical Aspects

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra direction is decent but he goes way too much into detailing and showcases unnecessary events. Screenplay of the movie is a bit haywire as way too many unnecessary scenes could have been edited. As everyone would be waiting for some real track and field events, it is only revealed in the second half.

Rakeysh for his last two films Delhi6, Rang-De-Basanthi chose A R Rahman for muisc, but this time Shakar-Ehsaan-Loy were given the job. The trio managed to do an average job as all the tracks are just about OK. Binod Pradhan's camera work is top notch and depicts the rural and ancient India is shown in a very good light.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag ReviewAnalysis

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag carried a lot of pre-release buzz being a bio-pic but once film starts rolling it lets your expectations down completely. Misplacement of the scenes and too much emotion struggle showcased will put you off guard many times.  First half of the movie is way too slow and takes forever to gather momentum. Lots of dragging scenes made it look boring sometimes and unnecessarily become the reason for increasing overall length of the movie.

The only strength and best thing of the movie is the heroics of Farhan, whose performance was a delight to watch on screen. He relives Milkha Singh's past and present in a dynamic and powerful way. Track and field events which show Farhan performing, practicing have been shot exceptionally.

Bottom Line : A way too long film which also gets tedious sometimes, but Farhan sprints his way into your hearts with his stunning performance.
