'Papanasam' is a famous remake of Malayalam movie 'Drishyam'. The movie was directed by Jeethu Joseph in Malayalam as well as Tamil. Kamalhaasan and Gautami did lead roles. The Tamil version was said to better even the original. Below are few of the factors which bettered the movie,

1. Casting

The casting has been effing perfect by Jeethu Joeseph. Of course, there is no replacement for Kamalhaasan. Only Kamalhaasan can do justice to that role. Gautami made a come back after 12 years and she was flawless. Niveda Thomas was beautiful and Esther Anil was an innocent kiddo. It was the perfect middle class family. Kalabavan Mani, Asha Sarath, MS Bhaskar and rest of the cast were also natural and they lived to the characters

2. Filming

Jeetu Joseph gets all applause here. He confirmed the movie and he fixed the locales. He chose the movie to be shot some where around Tirunelveli.Shooting took place in Nanguneri and Tenkasi , kuthukalvalasai, Mekkarai, a town in the Tirunelveli district. Few portions were even shot in Thodupuzha. Jeetu Joseph restructured the house hold settings to give the Tamil native feel.

3. Similarities

The success of the movie lies in places where you can watch yourself on screen. Most of the movies taste success when you can relate yourself at least to once of the scenes. 'Papanasam' had many scenes related to current scenarios and the family life style was portrayed so beautifully. No wonder that itself gave a huge boost to the movie. There were no heroics and all Kamal did was he played with his mental strength.
