National Treasure, Ghost Rider movie fame actor Nicolas Cage regrets turning down a chance to voice the friendly green character "Shrek" for the 2001 film. Cage was initially asked to voice Shrek, but the 49-year-old didn't want to "look like an ogre". The job eventually went to Mike Myers, but Cage admits he sometimes regrets turning the animated movie down. Shrek was released in 2001 and grossed over £300 million at the worldwide box office, and went on to spawn a number of sequels and spin-offs. Nicolas Cage said he didn’t pass up a chance to work with Dream Works when friend and studio chief Jeffrey Katzenberg approached him for "The Croods", and he is delighted to be a part of the movie. Cage said,  "What really got me about Grug is his emotional transformation from an overprotective father who is surviving but not living and then he learns how to let go and live and I like that. That's what appealed to me most. I like a movie that can make you laugh and make you cry." The usually shy star hit the red carpet premiere of "The Croods" in New York on Sunday with his wife Alice Kim,gladly posed for pictures and signed autographs for fans.
