girish karnad, who was a noted actor, writer, and theater artist took his last breath in Bengaluru a few hours back. He was 81. He started his career with the first play, 'Yayati' in 1961 and his next play was 'Tughlaq' in 1964.


Both the plays were critically acclaimed and got a huge reception. He has written numerous plays in Kannada and he was considered as one of the Kannada literature's foremost playwrights. He was conferred Padma shri in 1974 and in 1992 by the Indian government for his contributions to the arts.


He was the recipient of the Jnanpith Award, india’s highest literary prize, in 1999 for his contributions to literature and theatre. Various celebrities and politicians are expressing their condolence messages. On behalf of Team india Herald, we pray for his soul to rest in peace!
