Vijayawada & Tirupati: TDP lost another important cog in its wheel after former Chittoor MP Dr N Sivaprasad passed away at a private hospital in Chennai on Saturday afternoon. He was 68 years old and was hospitalised with kidney ailments and other age-related problems. Born in Pottipalli village of Chittoor district, Naramalli Sivaprasad did his MBBS at sri Venkateswara Medical College. However, his love for the stage brought him to theatre and then into Tollywood.

Soon, he was a much-sought-after actor. Especially known for his comic timing, Sivaprasad acted in over 30 films, some of which were big hits. He also directed four films. He received the prestigious Nandi award for his negative role in the 2005 film ‘Danger’.It was Sivaprasad who introduced MLA rk Roja to the film word in ‘prema Thapassu’. Sivaprasad directed the movie which saw Roja as the lead female. His last film was ‘Doosukelatha’ (2013).

In 1995, Sivaprasad answered the call of his classmate Chandrababu Naidu and made his political debut. He developed a team from the film industry, taking the artistes around the state during the 1998 Lok Sabha election campaigning. In 1999, Sivaprasad was given a ticket from Satyavedu assembly constituency where he won. He was also a minister for information and public relations in Naidu’s cabinet from 1999 to 2001. Sivaprasad won the Tirupati Lok Sabha seat in 2009 and 2014. From 2009 to 2014, Sivaprasad attracted the attention of the nation with his colourful demonstrations at the Parliament. While MPs from AP were protesting against the bifurcation by holding placards, Sivaprasad came to the House clad in different costumes.

If one day he was a school-going kid, the next he was Mahatma Gandhi. Dr Ambedkar, satya Sai, a magician… Sivaprasad was many forms in one man. After bifurcation, Sivaprasad was elected from Tirupati for the second term in 2014. This time, he led the TDP’s protests at the Parliament, claiming the Special Category Status (SCS) for the state. Chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy expressed grief over the former MP’s death and conveyed his condolences to the kin. N Chandrababu Naidu tweeted: “May his soul rest in peace. The party is at a great loss having lost two senior leaders within a span of a week.
