Its known that actress Amala Paul recently engaged with her director AL Vijay and both the couple displayed their engagement rings to the media.When everyone thought that the love birds united irrespective of religion; the new couple ran into some unexpected controversy.
Surprisingly the engagement has been called invalid by the Church.The decision was taken in wake of protests from a section of the faithful that the church had allowed the betrothal ceremony of the actress to a non-Christian inside the church. A Christian community in Kerala accused Amala Paul's family of violating basic rules of the Christian engagement as the betrothal was not held as per Christian customs.
Concerned for his daughter, Aamala Paul’s father stepped in to save the new couple from the growing controversy saying that his daughter did not have any engagement ceremony in the Church. In a letter to church father he said ‘’ the entire affair as just a prayer and not an engagement. A section of the media had misinformed saying the bethrothal ceremony was held’’, he stated.
“Amala grew up in and around the St. Jude Church, Aluva in Kochi and had special affection towards the church and it was only because of that that they decided to have the prayer there and that was not engagement,” Verghese added.
Amala has worked with some of the top actors in the south cinema including Vijay ("Thalaivaa"), Vikram ("Deivathirumagal"), Ram Charan ("Naayak"), Allu Arjun ("Iddarammayilatho"), Arya ("Vettai"), Fahadh Faasil ("Oru Indian Pranayakadha") and Mohanlal ("Run Baby Run").
