Sources from New delhi said monday that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, which passed on monday, will see a six-hour-long debate after 2019 on a controversial bill defending Union home minister amit Shah. In the meantime a total of 391 members present in the Lower house, 311 voted in favor of the Bill while 80 voted against it.

 

Further, the Bill seeks to amend the Citizenship Act, 1955 to make illegal immigrants who are hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians, excluding muslims from afghanistan, bangladesh and pakistan eligible for indian citizenship. Maybe the bill relaxes the need for these migrants from india for 11 years to six years. Prime minister narendra modi tweeted, "Delighted that the lok sabha has passed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, a rich and extensive debate after 2019. I am thankful that many MPs and parties have supported the Bill. ethos of assimilation and belief in humanitarian values ​​”.

 

Meanwhile, lok sabha, Shah said that the Citizenship Bill does not affect indian Muslims. He also said that no need to prepare background, india will have National Register of Citizens.
