Reportedly the government may be thumping its chest over the Union Budget tabled in parliament on saturday for the year of 2020-21, but the farmers seem to be unhappy after announcements in the farming sector were made by Union Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Perhaps while talking to reporters farmers said that the Budget did not meet their expectations. The finance minister proposed a 16-points action plan to boost agriculture and farmers' welfare.

Furthermore farmers in western Uttar Pradesh's Greater noida had tuned into the finance minister's Budget speech but were left disappointed. Further the Swaraj Abhiyan leader Yogendra Yadav, leading the farmers' conference said, "The government did not talk about the economy. In fact, it talked about history, geography, and literature."

Yadav added "Prime Minister's Kisan Yojana promised Rs 6,000 to eligible farmers per year in three equal instalments but it was just a promise. This Budget will lead us towards a stagnant economy and there will be more inflation". Moreover the government has kept the budget estimate for the next fiscal at the same level of Rs 75,000 crore. The government has disbursed over Rs 43,000 crore to more than 8 crore farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme so far.
