According to sources the Azim Premji Foundation along with wipro Limited and wipro Enterprises has committed Rs 1,125 crore to tackle the Covid-19 health crisis in India. A joint press release issued by wipro and Azim Premji Foundation said "Wipro Ltd, wipro Enterprises Ltd and Azim Premji Foundation have together committed Rs 1125 crore towards tackling the unprecedented health and humanitarian crisis arising from the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak". 

 

These resources will help enable the dedicated medical and service fraternity in the frontline of the battle against the pandemic and in mitigating its wide-ranging human impact, particularly on the most disadvantaged of our society."It may be noted that of the Rs 1,125 crore, wipro Limited has committed Rs 100 crore while wipro Entreprises is contributing Rs 25 crore. The larger Rs 1,000 crore share comes from the Azim Premji Foundation.

 

The release added "These sums are in addition to the annual CSR activities of wipro, and the usual philanthropic spends of the Azim Premji Foundation". Azim Premji, the founder of wipro and also known as the czar of the india IT industry, is known for his charitable work and acts of philanthropy. In march 2019, Premji pledged Rs 52,750 crore or 34 per cent of his shareholdings towards the Azim Premji Foundation.
