While addressing the nation from the Red Fort on the occasion of 73rd Independence Day, Indian PM modi said that india will soon have a Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). The CDS will act as a one-point reference for all the security matters and this particularly includes the military.

It is a key reform and modi also called this as a 'Game Changer'. The CDS will be drawn from armed forces, with three chiefs or staff. Earlier there were talks to create a CDS but the previous governments were totally reluctant.


modi further said, "To further sharpen coordination between the forces, I want to announce a major decision from the Red Fort: india will have a Chief of Defence Staff- CDS. This is going to make the forces even more effective." PM modi also said about the changes in the security situation and technology and the need for the Nation to move forward.
