Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha has urged the central government to start the production in Koodankulam Unit-1. They were kept under maintenance for few days. It seems they required some co-ordinated action among those Southern states to neutralize the Maoist threat.

We earlier reported that Union Home Minister Rajnath came to Vijayawada to attend the 26th Southern Zonal Council (SZC) meet. Jayalalitha asked him to get centre's attention to the Koodankulam nuclear plant so that the power shortage problems will be solved.

Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant has been shut down for maintenance from June 24th this year. Regarding this, O.Paneer Selvam said, "The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd is yet to clearly indicate when the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant Unit-I will recommence production.

We request NPCIL to start the production once again in Koodankulam first unit as this will meet the emergency needs of Tamil Nadu." It has to be noted that Tamil Nadu was allotted 563 MW out of the 1000 MW produced by Unit-I of Koodankulam plant.
