The state government of Andhra Pradesh has reportedly stirred a
hornet's nest by finalizing plans for building a brand new greenfield
airport within the proposed capital city area. The Capital Region
Development Authority (CRDA) has also started scouting for land for this
new international airport.
The plans for a
separate international airport within capital city area is seen at a
time when the Chandrababu Naidu government is striving hard to get
international tag for the Gannavaram airport, located nearly 25 km away
from the capital city.
Sources say that the
government is planning to create a new airport near Tadikonda, situated
nearly 20 km from the Krishna riverbank in Amaravati. Aviation experts
are reportedly studying air movement and weather patterns in the region
before finalizing the location.
AP will be
acquiring 7,500 acres for the airport as part of the Amaravati master
plan. Farmers feel that when already an outer ring road is being planned
to connect Gannavaram airport to the capital city at massive cost of Rs
16,000 crore, then what is the need for another airport.
