A leading private bank in Chennai has not followed the procedure while debiting a sum from customer's savings account for settling credit card dues and returning his cheque. Regarding this consumer forum has fined Parry's Corner branch of the bank for deficiency in service.


E.BalaSubramaniam of T.Nagar had savings account with Parry's Corner branch where he presented a self-drawn cheque for 40,000 on June 21, 2012. And even though he had sufficient money, his cheque was returned for 'insufficient funds'. After 9 days the bank debited a sum of Rs.36000.


Immediately Balasubramaniam moved to district consumer disputes re-adressal forum, north Chennai and he claimed refund of the amount along with compensation for deficiency in services. But HDFC Bank has denied the statement and has lashed out the person.


They say that after getting repeated notice he has tried to withdraw money. But there is no proof that the bank never submitted any documents. On other hand, Bala has all proof that he had surpass money in his account.
