This was one top statement that shook the nation’s social and political speeches for nearly second half of the year. The intolerance debate had its heart at religion and growing majoritarianism in the nation, targeting the current government. The differing opinions of celebrities and hotshots were attacked and taken sensitive by the political people. Overall, the statement itself roiled the nation this year making may people the political pawns.
2. Happy to Bleed !
Happy to Bleed was a counter campaign plunged as a protest against menstrual taboos. It all started with the Sabarimala controversy, in which the temple board allegedly looked out for a device to scan menstruating women. The social media was rife with this Happy to Bleed campaign as a response to authorities misogynist argument.
3. Maggi Controversy
India’s favorite instant snack, Maggi Noodles, got into a massive ban this year. The controversy behind the issue is that the UP Food Safety and Drug Administration tested samples, resulting in ban of the product all over the country. Moreover, the brand ambassadors were also kept culpable for the product ban and faced the heat of the controversy. Later the ban was taken back.
4. Ghar Wapsi
The Ghar Wapsi campaign initially started past year and the heat of it continued to grow by mid-february this year. It was a reconversion drive targeted towards minority communities. When Modi mentioned that it was constitutional, making clear of the government’s intolerance to religious discrimination. However, there were VHP leaders defended the campaign terming it as unconstitutional.
