Recently a new order was implemented by Madras High Court that persons who visit temples should wear certain dress. The dress code for male is formals or dhoti and for female is sarees or Chudidars with dupatta.

The High court said, those who wear Jeans, Leggings will not be permitted inside temple. As it was New Year, there was a huge fight for first day first dharshan in all temples. Devotees went to most of the temples and there was over crowding in most of the places from early morning.

Many shrines witnessed serpentine queues throughout the day. Mrs.S.Sujatha who is a devotee said, "I am from Mylapore and I paied 20 bucks for a special dharshan at Kabali temple. It took only 5 minutes to reach the sanctum which otherwise take 30 minutes."

This is the same case in Parthasarathy temple at Triplicane and Vadapalani Murugan temple. But most of them said, the dress code was not followed. A senior official of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department said, "We already provided necessary instructions. It will take more time to frame the rules in all places."
