The National Green Tribunal has issued notice to all industries which were located from Haridwar to Kanpur and they demand a shut down for polluting river Ganga. The Green panel also asked those industries to check the pollution on the river beds.

There were various industries like tannery paper and pulp, textile, slaughter houses. A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar said, "There is not a single industry which is unpolluted. For the past two years, we have sent several notices and they have never responded to any of our notice.

We ordered them not to cause pollution. But they are just providing muted response. If pollution is there, why shall we not shut these industries. Tell us why we should not close down industries which are running without consent from the pollution board."

Tribunal ordered Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board to put a list of 1070 polluting units and also the Environment Ministry to clarify the process of cleaning the public domain. The tribunal will hear the matter once again on 7th of March.
