Vishakapatnam Railway Station will get WiFi facility by end of this month. Central Government promised to equip Railway Stations with free WiFi's and few cities were given priority. Among the first 100 cities, Vishakapatnam was ranked 20th. The WiFi project is launched at a cost of Rs.2 Crores.
WiFi modems were already installed at every 100 metres space. Regarding this, D.R.M.Chandralekha Mukherjee said, "The WiFi facility will be free for the first 30 minutes and later charges are applicable.
We have covered the connection across eight platforms. The entire work will be completed in a couple of weeks. The WiFi system will go online from this moth end. We already signed an MoU with with Rail Tel to facilitate WiFi in the station.
Google has also offered assistance in providing the project with security measures. We request public to make use of this facility. The speed of internet is not calculated. However we have decided to keep the speed at a rate of 512Kbps."
