Farmers of Telangana are a lot worried as they could not get enough water to take up Rabi crop in coming days. Chief Minister K.Chandrasekar Rao recently had an agreement with Maharashtra government on construction of five barrages on Godavari and its tributaries.
But still the farmers worry as they need more water for Rabi crop and the Sufficient water in Godavari helped them so far. Rabi is an important crop for all farmers in Godavari delta and now they are worried as the water levels have been decreased substantially.
After bifurcation, Telangana Government is redesigning Pranahita Chevella project and this has caused more woes for the farmers. Now with the new agreement between Telangana and Maharashtra, the farmers are even more worried. ICAR former member and farmers leader M.V.S.Nagi Reddy said,
"Godavari is just going the Krishna way. What happened to Krishna delta farmers is going to happen to Godavari Delta farmers. Pranahita Chevella Lift Irrigation project which is redesigned might benefit Telangana farmers but it will be disastrous to Godavari delta farmers."
