Senior Congress Leader and Member of Parliament KVP Ramachandra Rao has introduced a private member bill in the Rajya Sabha with respect to Special category status for Andhra Pradesh. He also mentioned that the promises made by Union Government to state of Andhra Pradesh, during bifurcation has not been met yet.

Ramachandra Rao said in a statement, "Indian Prime Minister promised to address all the concerns of all regions during bifurcation of United Andhra Pradesh and this also includes the special category status to the state of Andhra Pradesh for a period of five years.

But post-bifurcation, the state of Andhra has lost its significant resource base and therefore remains at a disadvantageous state comparatively to other neighbouring states. There is also huge financial crisis in the state. Centre has promised that necessary grants would be provided in the Current budget and nothing has been done to Andhra Pradesh.

Right now the state is also facing revenue deficit. Centre also promised special development package for backward areas of Rayalaseema and northern coastal Andhra. But they were also not met. So this Bill is being moved."
