The Andhra Pradesh government had appealed against the Hyderabad
High Court’s verdict regarding the assets of Higher Education Council
based in Hyderabad. The Supreme Court of India delivered its verdict
recently in this case.
The Apex court has
slashed the high court’s verdict supporting that all the assets of
higher education council based on Hyderabad will belong to Telangana.
The Apex court clearly stated all the assets and liabilities at the time
of state bifurcation should be divided in population ratio.
This
means that Andhra Pradesh will get a major share in many institutions
and bodies which will be to the tune of 52%. The court has also
instructed Centre to intervene and monitor to see whether division is
happening in that ratio.
The apex court
categorically said that this ruling will be applicable to all the
institutions in Hyderabad. This judgement is seen as a major relief to
Andhra Pradesh state which is reeling under severe financial crunch
after state division. AP may get thousands of crores as per this
verdict!
