The Water Resource Organization’s Chief Engineer for Tiruchy Region, S. Ashokan has said under the Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP), various works are anticipated to be completed before the commencement of the next monsoon season at the Stanley reservoir in Mettur dam.


After carrying out the inspection work, Ashokan has spoken to the reporters has stated that still work is on to install modern seismograph instruments, power generators, modern lightning conductors and also digital automatic water level recorder in the dam.


Ashokan has said all the pending works will be over before the next monsoon. He said that the water will be discharged for the irrigation based on the inflow and storage level in May and the water discharge would be decided. He has stated that the present storage of 23.64 tmc will be sufficient for drinking water requirements till August.


Presently a team form IIT Chennai which was led by the Professor of Structural Engineering Division P.Alagusundaramoorthy is conducting a stability study on the 16 vent Ellis Saddle Bridge at a cost of around Rs.31 Lakhs. Based on the report, works will be undertaken to strengthen the bridge. The officials have said nearly 140 tmc of water was discharged for Delta irrigation from 2015 to February 2016.
