It was the first time on February 4th 2011, the first sparks of the multi crores granite scam has begun in Madurai district which was shown up with the justice K. Chandru of the Madras High Court has earlier ordered for a detailed enquiry into the allegations of suppression of commercial transactions and tax evasions which was made by PRP exports, which is a premier granite exports at Tamilnadu.

Meanwhile a writ petition is pending from 2009, and the judge has quashed an order which was passed by the former Madurai Collector N. Mathivanan, and has given a clean chit to the granite firm and has directed the Commissioner of Geology and Mines to organize a personal inspection of the quarries which was taken on lease by the private firm and a thorough enquiry has to be made within next three months.

During 2012, the then collector Sagayam has written to the Industry’s secretary mentioning the granite theft in the district could have incurred a loss of Rs. 16,338 crores to the public exchequer. Within few days of writing the letter, Sagayam was transferred to Chennai as the Managing Director for Handloom Weaver’s Cooperative Society.

The Judicial Magistrate at Melur, K.V. Mahendra Boopathy was handling the illegal granite pending cases before him and he has presently passed a judicial order charging the prosecution of having brought the disrepute to him, by suppressing important facts before the High Court Bench. He has also made an order against the two special public prosecutors as they have filed two private complaints in his capacity as Madurai collector on 2013 though he was transferred much before that.
