The very first time people proudly hold an ink-stained finger for a Selfie is probably after they cast their vote. The indelible ink which is used in the election process has lived through many decades and has outlived paper ballots which were replaced by the Electronic Voting Machine.

The only company which is authorized to produce inks is the Mysore Paints and Varnish Limited, which is a private firm situated in Karnataka state. The ink production is based on a chemical formula which was developed by the National Physical Laboratory under the direction of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.
The ink has a rich history and it is on the verge of facing a major change in the way it is used. Based on some feedback, there is proposal to replace the bottle and the brush with the marker pens. The GM of Mysore Paints and Varnish Limited C. Hara Kumar have told that the EC has not taken a call on marker pen so far.

The company supplies the ink to every states and the company has its clients in over 25 countries. The chemical formula cannot be duplicated and it has the patented protection. They have in advance sent the allotment for Tamilnadu and Puducherry based on the requirement which is given to them.
