Indians always take pride that Kohinoor belong to them. For many decades successive governments at Centre boasted that they will get back $200 worth Kohinoor diamond presently with UK and restore the pride of Indians.
During the last general elections BJP's PM candidate Modi thundered that he would get back Kohinoor from UK. During his last visit to UK rumours spread that Modi will ask British PM to return back the Kohinoor.
But all patriotic Indians got huge shock when Union Government informed Supreme Court that Kohinoor was gifted by Maharaja Ranjit Singh to he East India Company and it was neither forcibly taken nor stolen. Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar went on to add that India shouldn't claim Kohinoor diamond.
After hearing this Chief Justice warned centre that it would be problem in future if they claim Kohinoor and questioned whether the government seeks dismissal of petition on return of Kohinoor.
Solicitor General informed that this stand was taken by Ministry of External Affairs and Culture Ministry. Supreme Court asked Centre to file reply in detail with in six weeks on Kohinoor diamond.
