The Salem Railway Division’s passenger earnings have gone up by four per cent from Rs. 459 crores to Rs. 477 crores during last accounting year despite the tight economic trend which was witnessed across the country, was stated by Shubhranshu the Divisional Railway Manager.


Mr. Shubhranshu said while addressing at the Railway Week celebrations has stated that the catering earnings have gone up by 34% and the parking fees by 21%. Salem division was also able to bring down the expenses by 10% i.e. from Rs.990 crores to Rs.890 crores.


Shubhuranshu has also added that a new modern station building is coming up at Periyanaickenpalayam Railway Station near Coimbatore and in the near future around 40 drinking water vending plants will be installed in six major stations.


Due to the proper functioning of personnel branch, the Salem division has bagged both ‘personnel efficiency shield’ and the ‘manpower planning shield’ in the Southern Railway and nearly 14 shields were presented to various railway stations and branches in Salem division for the best maintenance and safest section. K. Murugesan the Station Manager for Salem and Vijayakumar the Station Master of Mohanur has received the shields from Mr. Shubhranshu.
