A senior official of Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) here has stated that there is nearly 12 per cent increase in electricity consumption in the district in March this year compared to last March. Last year the consumption was 40 million units a day and it is almost 44 million units a day presently.

The officials have added that the impact of summer is not likely to be much in the agriculture sector and many areas are dry and there might not be substantial increase in power consumption by the agriculture service connections.
