Chennai sources have stated that eight years after the murder of K. Vijayan alias Vijay Kumar, a relative of former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran, a Sessions Court here has convicted and has sentenced all the seven accused persons to life imprisonment and  the court has also found Banu, Karuna and M. Karthik guilty under section 302 (Murder) of the IPC. Banu, the prime accused, is the niece of MGR.

It is stated that according to the prosecution, Vijayan was hit on the head with an iron rod when he was returning home on June 4, 2008 and the crime was an outcome of a property dispute the prime accused Banu had with Vijayan, her sister’s husband.

Meanwhile the judge has stated that the frequent calls between Banu and Karuna lead to the irresistible conclusion that Banu was the person who wanted Vijayan to be killed and she has conspired to do so along with Karuna.

Judge has added that Karuna has engaged the other accused to maintain surveillance of the deceased, and kill him at the earliest possible chance and hence, the charge of conspiracy against all the seven accused to kill Vijayan is proved beyond doubt.
