World's renowned sports festival Olympics will be starting from Aug 5 in Rio, Brazil. Now with just three days to go, let us see the medal prospects for India in the Olympics. PM Modi wished all athletes all the best and said he will become Postman to wish the players. He flagged off run for Rio and asked younsters to work for India for 2020 Olympics and send more than 200 member contingent to Tokyo. Currently 119 athletes, the highest from India is representing the country in Rio. 


Shooting


National Rifle Association of India president Raninder Singh claimed India will win six medals the same number it won in the last olympics (two silver and four bronze). However India can expect to win atleast two medals. Abhinav Bindra 2008 gold medalist and Gagan Narag 2012 bronze medalist are leading the team. Others include World no 2, 29-year-old Jitu Rai. Of the 50m and 10m pistol events who can expect silver medal like Vijay Kumar in 2012. 

39-year-old Manavjit Singh Sandhu represented India in 2004,2008 and 2012 and he cannot be off target. Heena Sidhu, India's women shooter is the best pistol shooter in the world and she holds the Finals World Record in the 10m air pistol


Archery


Following disappointment of 2012 Games, when Indian men's team lost close shootout to Japan and Womens' team ranked second lost to Denmark in 2012, no one is having hopes on Archery.  Deepika Kumari, a former World No 1 in 2012 now sitting at 12th place, still feels the hurt and anger of 2012 and says that her inner "demons" can only he conquered by an Olympic medal.She along with  Laxmi Rani Majhi and Bombayla Devi should compete with South Korea. One can expect one medal from Archery. 


Badminton


Saina Nehwal,playing her third Olympics is India's best hope. She will face tough fight from  Tai Tzu-ying of Chinese Taipei, Spain's Carolina Marin and China's Li Xuerui, the Olympics champion and other Chinese counter parts .PV.Sindhu lost her power and in men's arena  23-year-old Kidambi Srikanth is a dark horse. One can expect 1 medal from the team.


Gymnastics


22-year-old Dipa Karmakar became  one of only five gymnasts across the world to successfully attempted the dangerous Produvona vault at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. She won bronze at the 2015 Asian Gymnastics Championships and reached the final of the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in 2016, both firsts by an Indian, and prompted none other than the iconic Nadia Comaneci to walk up and congratulate her. One can expect a medal from her. 


Tennis


Sania Mirza and Leander Paes are the best hope from Tennis. Rohan Boppana and others are competing. 


Wrestling


In wrestling too India is sending strong contingent and people expect few medals from the team. Yogeshwar Dutt won slver in 2012 London and he should be fit and come with top performance. 


Boxing


Boxing too has couple of medal prospects. 


Hockey


Indian hockey team is looking for revival to find its lost glory. One can expect strong show and even a podium finish. 

 When you hear of rower Dattu Bhokanal making the Olympic cut and judoka Avtar Singh finding an entry into the Rio draw, there is reason to feel happy.It's not just athletes like Vikas Gowda, Tintu Luka and Seema Antil nee Poonia who will be in Rio.There is a fresh crop in track and field which has made the grade, though sprinter Dutee Chand has grabbed headlines with her brilliant bursts in the 100m dash. All Indians wish its athletes all the best ahead of the Rio Olympics
