Half of India is inundated in floods and people are looking for help from the respective state governments and centre. This has been the situation for quite many decades and people are left to wonder whether floods are predictable and damage avoidable.
Floods always shocked people of India and a month back Rajastan, Bihar,Chattisgarh,Madhya Pradesh got drowned in flood water. Sometime back Chennai,Tamil Nadu got shock when entire city was drowned in floods.
Many are of the opinion that interlinking of rivers may solve the problem while others say de slitting of rivers will minimise the problem. Central Government committee in 2006 identified 39 flood prone districts across the country, and of them 15 are in Bihar. Other states include Assam and Uttar Pradesh.
Central Government feel flood warnings are accurate and reliable and it is the responsibility of state governments to take preventive measures. In the recent past cities and towns are getting drowned which is a new phenomenon.
National Disaster Management Authority says this is man made and inadequate drainage system and rampant encroachment of waterways are the reasons for the problem.
Natural disasters like floods cannot be avoided but one should find ways to deal the the disasters in a more effective and efficient manner.
