Sources from New Delhi have stated that BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi's proposal to rename Race Course Road as Ekatma Marg, based on the philosophy of her party's ideologue, Deendayal Upadhyay, has raised the hackles of AAP and the proposal was submitted to NDMC on September 9th and will be tabled in the council meeting on Wednesday.
The AAP MLA from Delhi Cantonment Commando Surinder Singh, who is a member of NDMC, wants the road on which the PM's residence is located to be renamed after martyr Flight Lieutenant Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, a Paramvir Chakra awardee.
She has added that Race Course, is very alien and uninspiring and also, the PM is the biggest follower of the philosophy of Deendayal Upadhyayji and this is the right tribute to him as he believed in ekatma (integral humanism), and the nation is celebrating the birth centenary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay this year.
Meanwhile NDMC had taken the decision after east Delhi BJP MP Maheish Girri proposed the move to correct the mistakes made in our history and the Minister of state (external affairs) and former General VK Singh had also mooted a proposal to rename Akbar Road after Maharana Pratap.
