Chennai sources have stated that the Supreme Court on Thursday had refused to entertain a plea of the father of Swathi murder case accused P. Ramkumar, who has allegedly committed suicide in jail, to have an independent expert present at the time of his son's autopsy, saying this will become a "bad practice".

The court had asked advocates Kamini Jaiswal and S. Rajinikanth, counsel for Ramkumar's father R. Paramasivan, whether he had apprehensions if the doctors were biased or if they were not good enough or if the hospital was not good.

Meanwhile the petition referred to the 1995 circular of the National Human Rights Commission that had directed all the States and Union Territories to video graph autopsies in custodial death cases and send them to the Commission.

After challenging the High Court order giving a deadline for the conduct of post mortem as “erroneous”, Mr. Paramasivan had sought a stay of the High Court order till the Supreme Court finally decides his plea for an independent expert.
