‘UPA is a sinking ship, which the allies are about to desert....’ commented Nitin Gadkari, on 21st of July at Nagpur. This comment that was made in the backdrop of the NCP leader Sharad Pawar’s tiff with the Congress is appropriate, but with one major exception. The BJP’s alliance too is in shambles, as it could be deduced from the stand taken by the parties like the Shiv Sena and the JD (U) with regard to the presidential election. The bitter inner qualms and the skirmishes in the NDA are for the entire nation to watch. Karnataka state’s ruling BJP units, SOS calls every now and then to the central leadership of the party are for the entire nation to watch. Thus in this backdrop, it would be better for the BJP and its alliance partners, to take a close look at their prospects in the 2014 general elections, than to rely on the inner hostilities in the UPA led by the congress party, for securing power at the center. In fact the people of our county are thoroughly exhausted with the inner bickering, corruption scandals and pro-corporate policies, of the these two major parties, that have landed them in the present mire of price rises, decline in living standards, growing unemployment and in one word all that is worse off in the socio-economic and political life of theirs.  It is crucial to note here that the Left parties would certainly be the big gainers in the 2014 elections, given the present pathetic state of the UPA and the NDA.But, it looks like that they have lost focus and courage, to take upon themselves a larger role in the national politics. The n number of so called ‘historic blunders’ that are often highlighted by the national media, may have taken a toll, in terms of their courage to take bolder decisions in the national politics. But, these parties have to keep in mind, that none of the other major political players, in the arena are free from committing their own share of blunders. Given they show the initiative and imagination, the present are the times, when the left could catch upon the attention of the nation and secure the citadels of power. There are many regional political parties and the forces, which would rally behind the left parties, in the backdrop of the failure of the neo-liberal economic policies, which were pursued by the NDA and the UPA with equal zeal. This policy unanimity is the reason, why the BJP led NDA is often termed in the national press as the ‘Team B’ of the congress. Thus the only alternative left before the country, with the alternate policies is the Leftist political ideology. The same is being vindicated around the world, in all the countries, where unemployment and poverty are on rise.  Let us hope that these parties would overcome their lethargy and take up the lead role, in overcoming the shackles of the neo-liberal regimes and building a new world without the problems like unemployment and poverty.  These left parties of our country, have in fact squandered a historic opportunity, when they rejected to don the prime ministreship of the country, which was offered for their leader Jyothi Basu, a few years back. They themselves have made comments to this extent, later on in the public. But, now times are ripening once again now, that too on a much bigger scale and magnitude. Thus let the left brace itself for a larger role in rallying all the political forces that do stand by the alternative economic policies that alone could deliver wherewithal for the common man of the country and a decent and secure life for the middle classes..let us wait and watch..as to whether the left prefers to be left back once again or else does it prove that Left is right for solving the daunting problems our country is facing!!!.
