People of the country cannot forget the Bengaluru mass molestation during New Year celebrations. Despite video evidences, Karnataka government and cops didnot take any action against the offenders. They painted a rosy picture while Karnataka police commissioner and Home Minister came with a shocking statement blaming women for wandering out in night wearing skimpy clothes.
Following huge outcry they took steps as a eye wash but didnot change their attitude. Politicians from across the nation came in support of them shaming the women rather than act against the molesters. Now women across the nation decided to take the fight to the streets and nation is witnessing protests across the country against the mass molestation in Bengaluru.
Senior citizens, students, children, men, women and members of transgender community took part in the protest.In Bengaluru, protesters marched from the City Central Railway Station till Freedom Park. The protesters, accompanied by drummers, chanted slogans like "my body, my right" and "freedom for women".
They came with a petition to make places safe for women. The petition read “We are angry. There is no denying that we aren't as safe as we need to be. Shockingly, we found out that most of Rs 300 crore set aside for women safety has not been used. Karnataka has not mentioned a single line in the budget about making urban spaces safe for women and that needs to change. It is a long struggle but this is only the beginning. Women need to come out and stand together in the fight,"
Women protested in Delhi,Kolkata,Chennai, Mumbai and other places. Many men too joined them and shoted slogans "Freedom, Freedom, Freedom!" and held banners saying "Take back the night. Break the silence. End the violence" and "Nobody asks what my molester was wearing."
