Maoists struck again at Andhra -Odisha border killing 4 police men in Koraput. Maoists detonated an Improvised Explosive Device when the mini bus, carrying 12 policemen and a civilian reached near Mogarguma village on the Sunki-Salur highway.


The intensity of the blast as so high that it created a deep 7 ft crater on the high way. Police convoy was heading to Cuttak from Koraput for training. The blast injured 20 others seriously and official confirmation is awaited from the Odisha government.

Death toll is expected to increase as many jawans suffered serious injuries. According to sources  at around 5.25 pm, - the rebels triggered the blast when a mini-bus carrying 70 OASP jawans was on its way to Angul Police Training College for further training.


In the recent past maoist activity reduced as police eliminated many of their top leaders and some accepting the government's peace initiative. 


Last year witnessed more than 26 senior Maoists and over 700 members of their militia had surrendered following outreach programmes by the government. Last October, 27 maoists were killed in an operation in Malkangiri district.
