The political game is on as soon as the late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's confidante Sasikala was elected as the leader of the floor and would be Chief Minister of Tamilnadu. The Supreme court today announced that the judgement will be delivered in a week time in Jayalalithaa's disproportionate assets case where Sasikala stands A2 in the case.
Sasikala Natarajan who is to be sworn in as Chief Minster of Tamilnadu on February 9th faces her first legal hurdle very soon from now. The top court heard the Karnataka government’s plea challenging the high court acquittal of 61-year-old Sasikala and three others in the Rs.63 crore disproportionate assets case. The late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa who is the main accused in this case, after the death of her on December 5th last year the case against her stands less intensed. The others accused in this case are Sasikala’s sister-in-law Ilavarasi and Sudhakaran, Jayalalithaa’s foster son who she later disowned
Dushyanth Dave who appeared on behalf of the Karnataka governmet urged the Apex curt bench led by Justice P.C. Ghosh to deliver the judgement in the case. The judgment was almost ready and he should wait for a week, said the court, which had on June 7 reserved the verdict in the high-profile case.
Jayalalithaa and others were convicted by the trail court and was given 4 years imprisonment in September 2014, following which shealong with her soul sister Sasikala was jailed. Aftermath the Karnataka High court reversed the decision of the trail court and Amma once again became the Chief Minister.
Sasikala, who was named the AIADMK general secretary after Jayalaithaa’s death, was on Sunday elected the legislature party leader by MLAs, clearing the way for her to be the third woman chief minister of the southern state.
