Chittoor sources have stated that the official machinery is fully geared for the Legislative Council elections to the graduates and teachers’ constituencies of Prakasam, Nellore and Chittoor districts, scheduled on March 9. Over 8,000 staff, including the election staff, revenue and police is involved in the process.



Meanwhile when addressing a press conference here, Chittoor Collector Siddarth Jain had said 73,685 electors were listed for the graduates and 8,641 electors for the teachers’ constituency, with 108 and 69 polling stations respectively in the three districts. He had said sectoral magistrates, micro-observers, distribution staff, polling officers and all other personnel on election duty would be reporting at their respective polling stations on March 8 itself.

It was stated that the entire election process would be under digital surveillance. He had warned the public servants to strictly stay away from exerting influence on the voters, and any violation on their part would be dealt with sternly, including initiation of criminal and disciplinary action.



Further the Collector had said a 48 hour dry day norm would be in place from March 7, and all border check posts would be thoroughly under police surveillance to prevent flow of liquor from neighboring States. The mobile numbers of the authorized officials would be kept at the disposal of the electors in all the three districts, so that they could report any act of intimidation or luring by the candidates.
