Counting for the Manipur state which went to polls started and it the ruling Congress party which is hoping to win the state for the record fourth time is finding BJP a tough nut to crack. CM Okram Ibobi Singh who is facing a tough fight from BJP won the election from Thoubal constituency.
In the process he defeated famous social activist Irom Sharmila of PRJA who got just 90 votes. Irom Sharmila broke her 16 yer long fast demanding repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act on August 9 and launched her own party People’s Resurgence and Justice Alliance (PRJA), to contest against CM Okram Ibobi Singh.
She made clear that even if she was defeated she will try again in the 2019 elections. She said "I do not feel much affected by the result. It depends upon the people's mindset. I don't feel much affected by it, because people can still change their minds and everybody knows muscle and money power is being openly used by parties,"
In the meantime BJP is putting up tough fight and is hoping to wrest the state from Congress,just like as it did in Assam.
