Chennai sources have made a statement that Deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam, who held the post of leader of Tamilnadu Assembly when J Jayalalitha was the chief minister and lost it after he raised his majority against V K Sasikala's leadership, was on Thursday appointed to the post again.

According to sources presently he has replaced senior minister KA Sengottaiyan, who became the leader of the house earlier last year, after Panneerselvam broke away from the ruling group soon after the death of Jayalalitha. Sources have added that the appointment has come at a time when the first session of TN Assembly for 2018 is set to meet on January 8 with the customary address of Governor Banwarilal Purohit.

Meanwhile as per rules, it was the leader of the house who would propose government resolutions and further his opinion is being considered important while taking crucial decisions. Accordingly the forthcoming Assembly session would meet again in February or March for the budget, which will be the first session for rebel AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran as MLA.
