The comments of a biology teacher of the reputed Kendriya Vidyalaya School in Raipur have invited the wrath of parents. This happened after students recorded her talks attributing raped to dressing and usage of make-up. Snehlata Shankhwar, the teacher, also blamed the rape of Jyoti Singh (Nirbhaya) in Delhi in 2012 on Nirbhaya herself.
The students played the recording to the principal Bhagwan Das Ahire, following which several parents also made a complaint to the principal. The teacher said that since Jyoti was a man who wasn't her husband, it wasn't wrong that she was attacked. She also blamed Jyoti's parents for asking justice, saying that though they can get the criminals hanged, they weren't able to control their daughter, adding that lipstick and jeans are the root cause of such happenings.
The teacher justified her
misogynistic approach and talks saying that she told them as a warning to class
11 students who were outside late night. She expressed that a person's
safety is in their own hands, and though Nirbhaya faced injustice, she could
have saved herself if she hadn't gone out late. She added that she often
instructs girls as per Kendriya Vidyalaya's code of conduct, and Parents must
make sure children wear the uniform properly, rather than wearing lipsticks.
