Before few years, Aircel was the best Telecom Operator of Tamilnadu Circle, offering best services, and different unique call and data plans. However, now the company has been pushed to the extent of getting bankrupt, and following poor customer services by Aircel to its subscribers, many of the customers of Aircel are planning to and have already started to port their numbers to other networks.

Now TRAI has ordered Aircel, not to make use of the money paid by prepaid mobile users, and has also told the company to provide the information about the numbers getting ported. Till the December quarter, it was estimated that Aircel had a customer base of 8 crores, with a chunk of this base existing in Tamilnadu. The regulatory organization TRAI, has now ordered Aircel to enable porting of mobile numbers from Aircel to other telecom operators within a deadline of 90 days.

This decision was taken by TRAI, after Aircel announced that it has stopped its services in Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh from January 31. With increasing debts making Aircel bankrupt, the company was forced to make the decision, and the debts of this company operated by Malaysia's Maxis group amounts to 15000 crores. This situation has resulted in competitors like Idea and Vodafone to utilize the opportunity, and expand their base.
