The central Pollution control Board has reported to the Supreme Court that, Karnataka has been so far offering only polluted and unclean Cauvery river water to Tamilnadu. In most parts of Karnataka located close to the banks of Cauvery river, the industrial wastes and sewage gets mixed with the river water, and these industrial wastes from the factories in and around Cauvery get mixed with the water, even before they are refined. In particular, 80% of sewage and impurities get mixed with Cauvery from Bangalore.

Due to the pollution prevailing in the Cauvery water released by Karnataka to Tamilnadu, an estimated total of 5 lakhs 40 thousand and 200 million liter of polluted water and wastes are dumped to Tamilnadu per year. Due to this impure water coming from Karnataka with impurities, it has been analyzed and observed that the water comes with more if industrial chemicals and components like Cadmium, Mercury wastes and Bronze wastes, directly impacting the crops. Due to the impure Cauvery water, people living close to the banks of the river are prone to deadly diseases which become hereditary, besides also impacting the animals and cattle.
